NWFL Premiership: Imo State Commissioner backs Heartland Queens for Super Six

By Saheed Afolabi
Imo State Commissioner of Youth, Sport and Social development, Emeka Okoronkwo pledged support to Heartland Queens’ qualification quest to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six tournament.
Heartland Queens are facing an herculean task in avoiding the drop this season as they are fifth in the NWFL Premiership abridged group A raking in just eight points from eight matches.
The Imo State sports ministry boss urged the club not to relent in their pursuit of greatness as he challenged the club to win their next four games for them to qualify for the coveted Super Six event.
“Imo state Government will continue to see you as its prized asset and will not joke with you. Despite not winning the Imo FA Cup convincingly, we saw in you the tenacity to go extra mile to grind out results from difficult circumstances,” he told sportstainment247.
“It was not a performance we are proud about and I know you all felt the same. You still have four key games before the end of the season. Imo Government wants you to approach the games with all seriousness. If you are able to win the remaining four games, you will qualify for the Super Six without requiring any assistance.
“Go to the remaining games with the determination and resolve to give your all. The support from the government will always be there if you are doing very well. Play with the mentality to win starting from the next Wednesday game with Delta Queens in Asaba.”
Newly promoted Heartland Queens will resume their topflight outing against Delta Queens on March 22 in Asaba.
