NWFL Premiership MD 3 Wrap: Bayelsa Queens slip, Delta Queens claim derby win

Holders of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, Bayelsa Queens dropped points for the first time this season as the match week three of the 2022/2023 season got underway on Wednesday.
Heartland Queens with the return of forward, Lucky Mary who recently helped Imo State to a gold medal at the 2022 National Sports Festival (NSF) forced Bayelsa Queens to a goalless draw at Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenegoa.
The visitors earned their first point of the league season against the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League bronze medalist despite being reduced to ten players in the course of the game.
Elsewhere, Delta Queens defeated Royal Queens 3-0 in a local derby at Asaba Township Stadium, Delta State.
The clash between two teams from the same state ended in favour of the host, Delta Queens.
Fehintola Mabokanje opened the scoring for the host from the penalty spot before two goals from Mercy Omokwo settled the contest.
Nasarawa Amazons were the biggest winners of the matchday three with a 4-0 win over Ibom Angels at the Apa Aku Stadium, Makurdi, Benue State.
Dooshima Tarnum’s brace coupled with a goal apiece from Winifred Eyebhoria and Amarachi Okoronkwo lifted the Lafia-based side to win against the Uyo-based side.
In Lagos, Edo Queens recorded the only away win of the week against FC Robo Queens at FIFA Goal Project.
Ajimuda Rebecca gave Edo Queens an early lead in the second minute of play before Opeyemi Ajakaye’s seventh-minute equaliser.
However, Yemisi Samuel scored the game-winner for the Benin City-based side in the 73rd minute as the visitors earned consecutive win after opening match day defeat to Nasarawa Amazons.
Elsewhere, Sofiat Sotunde’s first-half strike earned Adamawa Queens a 1-0 win over Confluence Queens at the Atiku Abubakar Stadium in Fufore, Adamawa State.
Also in Abuja, Naija Ratels FC returned to winning ways with a 3-0 triumph over Osun Babes at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10.
A brace from Blessing Emmanuel and a goal from Agama Ziperekefeghe who converted her third goal of the season propelled the Abuja-based side to its second win of the season.
