Holders, Bayelsa Queens earned a 2-0 triumph against 2020/2021 Champions, Rivers Angels as the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership season kicked off on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.
After a goalless first half, the Prosperity Girls recorded victory to start its title defence on an impressive note with second-half goals from Juliet Sunday and Mary Aderemi.
Domo Okara’s team made it three straight opening matchday victories in the league after recording opening-day wins over Sunshine Queens (2-1 and 3-0 respectively) in the last two seasons.
Elsewhere, Ayatsea Hembafan’s 44th-minute goal was enough to help Nasarawa Amazons to a 1-0 triumph against Edo Queens.
Nkechi Agams also scored the winning goal for Abia Angels from Ndudim Amarachi’s assist to propel the Aba based to a solitary-goal win over FC Robo Queens.
Moreso, Osun Babes defeated Royal Queens 2-0 with goals from Eberechukwu Oleka (penalty) and Faith Samson in either half.
Moreover, Naija Ratels FC recorded a 3-1 win against Heartland Queens, while and Adamawa Queens thrashed Ibom Angels 2-0 respectively.
The opening matchday of 2022/2023 NWFL Premiership season produced six home wins from all six match centres.
A total number of 12 goals were recorded across six match centres. It will be another season in which the top-flight women’s football league season kicks off ahead of the men’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
