NWFL Premiership MD8 Wrap: Bayelsa hold Delta as Robo, Nasarawa earn away wins

Group A leaders Delta Queens were forced to a 1-1 draw by Cup holders Bayelsa Queens as the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership made an exciting return from a mid-season break on Wednesday.
The Group A top-of-the-table clash between Delta Queens and Bayelsa Queens came up two weeks after the reverse fixture ended 2-1 in favour of Delta Queens in Yenegoa but both sides eventually shared the spoils in Asaba.
At the Asaba Township Stadium, Mercy Omokwo’s opener for Delta Queens was canceled by Etim Edidiong’s equaliser for the league holders.
In Aba, Nasarawa Amazons completed a double over Abia Angels followin a 2-1 at the Enyimba International Stadium.
Goals from Dominance Odubanjo and Josephine Mattias in either half ensured the visitors overcame their hosts despite late effort of Nmesoma Ibe for Ann Chiejine’s ladies.
In Yola, a brace from Esther Onyenezide lifted FC Robo Queens to a 2-1 win over Adamawa Queens in Yola as the Lagos Landladies picked double wins over Jacob Vandhi’s side.
After five straight defeats, Osun Babes earned its second win of the season with a 2-0 triumph against Heartland Queens.
Rebecca Omodele gave the Omoluabi Babes the lead in the 11th minute before Bolaji Olamide doubled the Osogbo-based side’s lead in the additional minutes of the second half.
In Port Harcourt, Rivers Angels failed to see a win against Royal Queens as both sides played out a 1-1 draw at the University of Port Harcourt stadium.
With the first leg ending in a stalemate, Ghanaian player, Aguadze Juanita scored the first goal of the game for Rivers Angels in the 36th minute from the penalty spot in the bid to avenge their home defeat last season.
With hosts destined for a home win, former Oasis FC player, Azeezat Obadun left it late to rescue the Canadian Geese with her strike at the death to ensure the visitors return to Warri with a precious point.
Still to come, Confluence Queens will slug it out with Ibom Angels at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja on Friday.
As it stands, Delta remain top of Group A with 17 points ahead of Bayelsa Queens (12 points), Rivers Angels (10 points), Heartland Queens (8 points), Naija Ratels FC (7 points), Osun Babes (6 points), and Royal Queens (5 points).
While Nasarawa Amazons overtakes Edo Queens at the top of Group B with 13 points while the Benin City-based side have 12 points. They are followed by Abia Angels (10 points), Confluence Queens (10 points), FC Robo Queens (10 points), Adamawa Queens (9 points), and Ibom Angels (3 points) follow the top two teams in that order.
