NWFL Premiership: Nkechi Agams helps Abia Angels stun Edo Queens in Benin City

Edo Queens were handed their biggest shock of the season as they bowed to a 1-0 loss to Abia Angels in the final match of Week 6 fixtures of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership on Thursday.
Coach Moses Aduku started the game with former Adamawa Queens goalkeeper, Nkiruka Obidinma in goal alongside Efe Osakpolor, Alani Jumoke, Oshobukola Omowumi, Sunday Blessing, Olise Chioma, Joy Jerry, Abideen Suliat, Yemisi Samuel, Emem Essien, and Ajimuda Rebecca.
For Ann Chiejine’s side, Etim Sunday started in goal alongside Chinaza Enuma, Patience Dike, Miracle Usani, Victoria Eyakndue, Okenwa Chidera, Agams Nkechi, Kemi Shoremekun, Ijeoma Okeke Obasi Precious, and Ohadiwe Maryanne.
While Edo enjoyed a joint longest winning streak of the campaign with four straight wins with Delta Queens, Abia Angels on its part have won two out of its four league games thus far with a defeat and draw in the other games.
After a goalless first half, Nkechi Agams scored the winning goal for the visitors in the 54th minute to give her side its first away win of the season.
On the other hand, the defeat ended Edo Queens’ fourth straight winning run but the team’s lead at the top of Group B is now cut to two points.
Edo Queens still leads the group with 12 points, two ahead of Abia Angels and followed by Adamawa Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and Confluence Queens on seven points apiece, while Robo Queens and Ibom Angels got four and three points respectively.
