NWFL Premiership: Obi Ogbala opens up on Heartland Queens high scoring form
By Saheed Afolabi
Heartland Queens head coach, Obi Ogbala believes goals count as he tasked his side to continue their high scoring wins in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership season.
The Owerri based outfit maintained their impressive form, with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Adamawa Queens at the Dan Anyiam Stadium and Ogbala insists he isn’t surprised by his side’s fine scoring form.
The former Nasarawa Amazons gaffer further revealed how he had told his players before the start of the season the importance of scoring high in matches and it has been a huge advantage for them on the log.
“The goal margin was not a surprise, I even thought it would have been more than that but it’s hardwork that gave us the victory,” Ogbala told Heartland Queens media.
“Prior to the start of the season, I told them that goals count, we must make do with goals at all times. And you can see where we are sitting first position on the log it’s goals that separate us from the other three contenders. So, I have always reminded them that goals count in this business end of the league.
“I took them back to the Dannaz Ladies’ match where we were winning 1-0 and all of sudden it was 1-1 before we won with a stoppage goal. I said remembered the game and that motivated them to do what they did in the second half.
“So there will not be the number of goals we would score in a match that will surprise me, the way things are shaping up it may eventually come down to goals.”
Heartland Queens top the abridged NWFL Premiership group A table with 14 points from eight matches and a massive 12 goals this season.
