Obi Ogbala: Heartland Queens coach applauds player despite loss to Remo Stars

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

After four games, Heartland Queens continue to search for their first win of the 2023/24 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.

The Owerri-based side suffered a 4-1 loss to Remo Stars Ladies, which compounded their woes and slow start to the campaign after qualifying for the Super Six Playoffs for the first time last season.

The head coach of Heartland Queens, Obi Ogbala, while reflecting on the game, said his players put up a good fight, especially in the first half only to surrender in the second half.

“It’s a game. It was a good game irrespective of the goals. The girls put on a good fight, most especially in the first half with that comeback, only that we came back in the second half with a lot of errors that the opponents capitalized,” He said after the match.

“My girls did their best, and the home team did too. They are a good side.”

While not giving up on his team’s prospects this season despite three losses from their first four games, Ogbala believed the league is still ongoing and anything can still happen when his team starts winning games.

“It’s a marathon. We are still going on. It [a win] will surely come. I believe the win will surely come. I can’t for sure tell you it’s today or tomorrow. What I know for sure is that the win shall some.

“We weren’t quite in control of the ball. We gave away a lot of balls and that made us to be under pressure. As a result of that, we collapsed, but by talking to them, at least they put on the fight,t, and when goals start to come, you can’t stop it.

“We keep on moving. We are going to smile when the win starts to come. There is going to be a turnaround.” He concluded.

Heartland Queens will host Dannaz Ladies next Wednesday in Owerri as they search for their first win of the campaign.
