Odion Ighalo: Nigeria striker nets seventh goal of the season in Saudi Arabia
By Saheed Afolabi
Odion Jude Ighalo just can’t stop scoring in the Saudi Arabia Pro League as he registered his seventh goal of the campaign for Al Hilala against Damac on Saturday.
The former Nigeria international continued with his goal-scoring form in the Saudi Arabian top-flight after he scored the opening goal of the game in the 38th minute to give his club a 1-0 lead following a fine pass from Salem Aldawsari.
Despite scoring his fourth consecutive goal of the campaign, the former Manchester United striker could have added to his tally before the half time break but failed to find the back of the net.
Following a rebound from a powerful strike from the Nigerian, Damac goalkeeper Moustapha Zeghba punched to the waiting hands of Luciano Vietto, who just tapped the ball into the back of the net to double Al Hilal lead in the 51st minute.
Despite finding themselves behind, Damac never gave up and they pulled a goal back in the 75th minute with a superb goal from Abdulelah Al-Shammeri of an assist from substitute Hamzi Mansour.
A costly blunder from the Al Hilal goalkeeper gifted Damac a vital point as they came back on level terms inside the additional time through Abdulaziz Al-Shahrani.
The Super Eagle, who was booked in the 45th minute following a clumsy challenge, was subbed off in the 69th minute as he was replaced by Al Sherhi and the 33-year-old is now with seven goals and one assist in 11 matches.
Al Hilal are in fifth position of the Saudi Arabia Pro league and have garnered 22 points from 11 games so far.
He will hope to keep his goal-scoring run going when Al Hilal travel to face Al Ittihad at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium on Thursday.
