Florence Omagbemi has been named the new head coach of Nigeria women’s national team following the surprise termination of Randy Waldrum contract.

The 48-year-old had been linked with Nigeria job since her brief successful spell in 2016 but has agreed a deal with the Nigeria Football Federation which is due to last until 2025, after the sacking of Randy Waldrum.

“I have the pleasure to confirm I have committed to a record nine-time African champions, with the massive record of qualifying for every Women’s World Cup,” Omagbemi told Nigeriafootball.ng.

“I am lucky because for years I had the fortune to coach this team, albeit briefly and we made a wonderful success story at Cameroon 2016 and now I have the opportunity to coach big team again. It is an honour and I want to keep winning with this team.

“We have a duty to prove we are one of the best team in the world at the 2023 Women’s World Cup and also break our qualification jinx to the Olympics.”
