Ogbonda Whyte lauds Bayelsa Queens’ comeback win against Naija Ratels

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The head coach of Bayelsa Queens, Ogbonda Whyte said his players showed great determination and zeal during their 2-1 win over Naija Ratels on Wednesdays.

The Prosperity Girls were behind in the 71st minute after losing a penalty in the first half of their Matchday six of the 2024/25 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.

Quick-fire goals from Dooshima Tarnum and Delight Isaac lifted the Yenegoa-based side to victory, which ended the Abuja-based side’s unbeaten record in the league.

“We were eager to get the three points and we were aware Naija Ratels are a good side and won’t allow us to have our way easily,” Whyte told journalists in Yenagoa.

“We planned for them, and we were just focused on the three points, and we are thrilled we got it. It was a very good and exciting game from both sides.”

Whyte said everything in the line is possible, but they know that nothing happens without hard work and that they will continue to work harder and continue to see how they can grow as a team.

“We have a lot of young players in the team. Some of them just got their topflight breakthrough.

“We didn’t lose focus at the time ee were down by a lone goal, and I am happy with the quick response of my girls. We continued to do the same thing we have been doing and taking the game to them.”

With four wins and two draws, Bayelsa Queens is one of four teams without a loss after six league games alongside Remo Stars Ladies, Rivers Angels, and Edo Queens.

Next for Bayelsa Queens is an away fixture against FC Robo Queens of Lagos, who lost 1-4 to Delta Queens in Asaba on Wednesday, 26th February 2025, to end the first stanza of the NWFL.
