Nigerian footballer Oluwatosin Demehin has been officially conferred with the traditional title “Yeye Akeweje Ilaje” by His Royal Majesty, Oba Kayode Aiyetiwa, the Oba of Bariga.
The prestigious title recognizes Demehin’s contributions to youth development and her inspirational role as a community leader and role model.
The ceremonial honor, conferred by the Oba-in-Council and witnessed by members of the Ilaje-Bariga community, celebrates her achievements both on and off the pitch.
“This is more than a title — it’s a call to inspire, lead and uplift the youth of our beloved Ilaje community,” Demehin shared.
”I’m humbled and grateful for this recognition and the opportunity to serve in this new capacity.”
Demehin expressed deep gratitude to His Royal Majesty, the Oba-in-Council, and the entire Ilaje-Bariga community for the honor and pledged to continue serving with purpose, passion, and pride.
With this new responsibility, the footballer embraces an elevated role not only as an athlete but as a cultural ambassador and youth advocate for her community.
The former Stade de Reims defender played pivotal role for the Super Falcons as they clinched their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title against host, Morocco last month.
The feat has attracted several honours and cash rewards from government and corporate bodies since the arrival of the Nigeria’s senior women’s national team.
