Omeruo-less Leganes hold Mirandes to continue La Liga promotion push

By Olu Dare
Leganes settled for a 2-2 draw with Mirandes n Tuesday’s Spanish second tier encounter, with Kenneth Omeruo as unused substitute.
Having played three consecutive draws against Sporting Gijon, Granada and Villarreal B, El Lega welcomed the Reds Estadio Municipal de Butarque – with the ambition of seeking a win.
Fuelled by that ambition, they got off to a flying start when Juan Munoz put the hosts ahead after setting up Jose Arnaiz in the seventh minute.
Despite more attacking forays, they were unable to add to their tally with the home team’s strikers failing to convert begging chances.
In the 37th minute however, the visitors levelled matter thanks to an effort from Roberto Lopez – who was set up by Juanlu Sanchez.
Needing a win to boost their La Liga chances, Leganes commenced the second half like a house on fire. Even at that, it was Mirandes who took the lead through Sanchez.
With barely the last kick of the game, the hosts ensured that the fixture ended on a no winner, no vanquished note as Daniel Raba’s strike from Sergio Gonzalez pass beat goalkeeper Alfonso Herrero.
There was still time for the referee to give Herrero the marching orders for violent conduct. Even with this result, Leganes remained ninth in the log having accrued 26 points from 19 matches.
They would be hoping to return to winning ways when they square up against FC Andorra on December 10.
