Head Coach of Naija Ratels FC’s Bankole Olowookere believes the signing of Nigeria captain, Onome Ebi will serve as a morale booster for the team ahead of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership campaign.

The club unveiled the former FK Minsk defender in Abuja on Saturday and Ebi who holds the record for the most appearance by any African player (man or woman) at the World Cup joined the Abuja-based side as a free agent.

Reacting to the development, Olowookere, who led Nigeria to bronze medal win at the U17 Women’s World Cup, expressed his delight with the acquisition of Ebi, stressing that her arrival would make his work much easier.

“The signing of Onome Ebi is going to be a complete morale booster for the team,” Olowookere told NigeriaFootball.ng

“She has played the game all over and seen it all both at home and international level. She has captained the national team and played at several World Cup.

“I think her wealth of experience would help my work so much in a way that if any of the players are misbehaving she will be there to be a model for them.”

He seized the opportunity to call on retiring Super Falcons players to follow in the footsteps of Ebi by coming back home after their illustrious careers abroad.

“Playing with them will champion the defence like. This is the kind of players that we need in Nigeria,” he continued.

“I am using this medium to plead with some of our international players who are retiring to come to the home front where they started.

“The men are doing the same thing. Let’s the women footballers also retire at home which will bring more glamour to the game. That is what we are trying to do in Nigeria. Above it all, we are creating a family.”
