In a remarkable feat, 23-year-old striker Paul Onuachu of Midtjylland in Denmark has emerged as Nigeria’s top goal scorer for 2017, securing this title with a substantial lead of three goals over Anderlecht’s Henry Onyekuru, as reported by Completesportsnigeria.com. Onuachu’s stellar performance saw him netting 26 goals in 41 games during the calendar year, a remarkable achievement highlighted by four braces and an impressive hat trick.

The Danish Super Liga witnessed Onuachu’s prowess on multiple occasions, including braces against Nordsjælland, both home and away, and formidable performances against AaB and Brondby. Notably, his hat trick in the UEFA Europa League came against Derry City, showcasing his versatility and scoring ability on various fronts.

Onyekuru, currently on loan at Anderlecht from Everton, exhibited consistent goal-scoring form, tallying 10 goals in the 2017/18 campaign to bring his total to 23 goals in 50 games for club and country. The Anderlecht striker’s notable achievements include a brace against KSV Roeselare over two legs and another against KV Kortrijk in their 3-2 victory in the Belgian play-offs in May.

Additionally, Anthony Okpotu, a forward for Lobi Stars, claimed the top scorer title in the Nigerian Professional Football League for the 2017/18 season, notching up an impressive 19 goals. Meanwhile, Odion Ighalo, who joined Chinese club Changchun Yatai in early 2017, contributed 17 goals, including a crucial one for the Super Eagles in their 4-0 victory over Cameroon in Uyo.

Girona’s Kayode Olanrewaju secured the fifth spot with 10 goals in 36 games, showcasing his goal-scoring prowess, although none of those goals came while donning the colors of Girona, his current club. The 2017 football landscape for Nigerian strikers has been a tale of individual brilliance and significant contributions to their respective teams.
