Oshoala misses out as Super Falcons duo get CAF Player of the Year nomination

For the first time in recent years, Bay FC forward Asisat Oshoala did not get nominated for the 2024 CAF Awards in the women’s player of the year category.

This will be the first time since 2014 that Oshoala will not make the shortlist for the award.

She has won a record six CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.

The record African women’s player of the year winner and holder nonetheless will be glad that two of her national teammates made the cut.

Atletico Madrid forward Rasheedat Ajibade, who has been in stellar form for Nigeria’s senior women’s national team en route to return to the women’s football tournament of the Paris 2024 Olympics, got a nomination alongside her goalkeeper.

Chiamaka Nnadozie, who has been pulling off superb saves for the Super Falcons and Paris FC in the French women’s top flight and UEFA Women’s Champions League, was nominated for the second year running.

The two players will jostle for the biggest women’s football award in Africa alongside eight other stars.

They include Sandrine Niyonkuru (Burundi), Tabitha Chawinga (Malawi), Temwa Chawinga (Malawi), Sanaa Mssoudy (Morocco), Jermaine Seoposenwe (South Africa), Thembi Kgathlana (South Africa), Barbra Banda (Zambia), and Rachael Kundananji (Zambia).
