Asisat Oshoala has added a new record to her burgeoning collection of Barcelona honours after extending her personal feat scoring in nine consecutive matches in her career’s history.
The Nigeria international opened the scoring for Giraldez Costas’ Reds at Estadi Johan Cruyff in their 5-0 Spanish Liga F win over Villareal, inspiring the Catalans to a 20th win of the season.
The Catalan side started the game on the front foot with dominant possession but had to wait till the 21st minute to find the breakthrough when Claudia Pina the chance to head the ball toward the path of Oshoala to notch the lead.
Barcelona doubled its lead in the 38th minute as Selma Paralluelo was at the end of a one-two pass from Aitana Bonmati to score against her former club.
Caroline Hansen, who replaced Claudia Pina made a triumphant return with a second-half hat trick for Jonatan Giraldez’s side and she scored her first from a one-two pass between her and Bonmati in the 70th minute.
14 minutes later, Bonmati once again set her up before a wonderful strike inside the box extended Barcelona’s lead to four and Hansen completed her hat trick in the 90th minute from an individual play leading to a left-footed strike.
Oshoala saw 65 minutes of action before she was replaced by Brazilian forward, Geyse. She moved to the top of the goal scorer chart with 19 goals and two assists ahead of Levante’s Redondo Ferrer.
Barcelona tops the log with a maximum of 60 points after 20 games.
