Osinachi Ohale, Chinwendu Ihezuo fire Pachuca past Tigres in five-goal thriller

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria internationals Osinachi Ohale and Chinwendu Ihezuo both found the net as Pachuca edged UANL Tigres 3-2 in a Mexican Liga MX Femenil clash on Saturday.

Maria Sánchez opened the scoring for Tigres in the 20th minute with a superb free kick at the Estadio Universitario.

Pachuca hit back before the break when captain Verónica Corral converted a 41st-minute penalty after Ihezuo was fouled by the Tigres goalkeeper.

Just two minutes into the second half, defender Ohale put the visitors ahead for the first time, volleying home from a corner.

Tigres responded through Diana Ordóñez, who levelled the tie 10 minutes later.

But it was Ihezuo who sealed the points, striking the winner in the 76th minute — her first goal of the season.

Both Nigerians, fresh from winning the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Falcons, played the full 90 minutes, with Ohale netting her second goal of the campaign.

The result lifts Pachuca to fourth place in the Apertura standings with 14 points from seven matches, four behind leaders Club América.

Up next, the Mexican champions face Panama’s Chorrillo in the CONCACAF Champions Cup group stage on August 20.
