“Our objectives go beyond scoreline” – Cape Verde coach Silverai Nedio aims Nigeria upset

As Cape Verde prepares to face Nigeria in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Thursday, Head coach Silveria Nedio is untroubled by the pedigree of the Super Falcons as she shares further insights, emphasizing the team’s aspirations and readiness for the challenge.
The West Africans progressed to the next phase after silencing Liberia in the first round of the qualifiers, securing a 6-2 aggregate victory over the neighbours in September.
The Cape Verdeans were rewarded with a second round duel with one-time African champions and manager Nedio is upbeat about her side chances against their West African rivals.
“Nigeria’s nine-time champion status reflects their immense dedication. We respect their journey, but we enter this challenge fully aware of the strength they bring to the pitch,” Nedio told Nigeriafootball.ng.
“Our objectives go beyond the scoreline. We aim to elevate women’s football in Cape Verde, learn from experienced international teams, and uphold fair play, dignifying our nation in the process.”
To advance to the second and final stage, Cape Verde earned a comfortable 3-0 first leg win over Liberia before completing the double with a narrow 3-2 win on away soil.
“Positive takeaways from our game against Liberia instill confidence. We’re on the right path, contributing to the growth of Cape Verdean football,” she continued.
And on going up against Nigeria, she insisted that: “Participating in international tournaments, Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualification, FIFA recognition – these are victories in themselves. Our journey is marked by milestones beyond the numbers.”
When asked on what Cape Verdean should expect from her ladies, she said: “Cape Verdeans can expect a team with a fighting spirit, dedication, and occasional boldness. Dreams are what drive us, and we carry the hopes of our nation onto the field.”
