By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
FIFA has appointed Togolese referees to take charge of the 2024 Olympic Qualifiers between Nigeria’s senior women’s national team and their Ethiopian counterparts in October.
The match is the second preliminary round of the Paris 2024 women’s Olympic football tournament, with the East Africans slugging it out with the West African giants for a place in the third phase.
Kindedji Edoh will be at the center of the game accompanied by her Togolese colleagues Agbedanou Abra Sitofe, Awoutey Kossiwa Kayigan, and Amedome Vincentia Enyonam.
Oulare Daloba from Guinea will serve as the referee accessor while Ghanaian Ziga Christine Enyonam will be the match commissioner in Abuja.
The MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja will host the match on October 31 under the direction of the Togolese referees.
The nine-time African champions will hope to qualify for the women’s football event of the Olympics for the first time since 2008, having missed the last three editions of the Olympics.
After taking part in the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Olympics, the Super Falcons have not qualified for the last three Olympics in 2012, 2016, and 2020.
After avoiding defeats in regulation time throughout the 2023 FIFA Women’s Word Cup with a Round of 16 finish, the West African giants are high in confidence ahead of the Qualifiers in a bid to join host, France and Olympic Champions, Canada in qualifying for the Olympics.
