After a knee injury ruled Rosengard FC midfielder Halimatu Ayinde out of Paris 2024, she took to her X handle (formerly Twitter) to react to the recent development.
NigeriaFootball.ng had earlier reported that the player would miss the women’s football event of the Olympics due to a knee injury on Thursday. While confirming the news, Ayinde posted a picture of herself after successful surgery on her X handle.
“With a heavy heart, I announce I won’t be part of the Super Falcons for the Olympics. I’m deeply grateful to FC Rosengård and my teammates for their support and love,” she posted.
The 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup silver medalist and three-time Africa Women’s Cup of Nations winner posted that she will be cheering the team to victory at the Olympics.
“Best of luck to my fellow Super Falcons. I’ll be cheering for you and will return stronger. Go Superfalcons.”
The nine-time African champions will face Brazil, Spain, and Japan in Group C.
Returning to the Olympics for the first time since 2008, Randy Waldrum’s side hopes to replicate or surpass the 2004 feat of reaching the quarter-final in Athens, Greece.
