For the first time since 2008, Nigeria will be represented in women’s football at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and Michelle Alozie is particularly overjoyed.
The Houston Dash player was instrumental during the qualifying phase and has been a key part of the team since her debut in 2021.
She shone brightly for the Super Falcons at the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where they exited on penalties to England in the round of 16.
The 27-year-old fan favorite took to social media to celebrate her life-changing achievement of securing a spot on Nigeria’s Olympic squad. Alozie, whose dreams have now become a reality, will lead the five-woman defensive lineup selected by coach Randy Waldrum.
In a post, she shared a photo of herself wearing a customized retro Nigeria jersey with a +234 inscription while wrapped in the Nigerian flag. She captioned it, “16 years later… NAIJA IS BACK IN THE OLYMPICS!”
On her Instagram, Alozie also posted a video of herself in Houston Dash’s training kit, whispering to the camera, “I’m going to the Olympics,” with a radiant smile that spoke volumes about her accomplishment.
