Paris 2024 Olympic: Desire Oparanozie confident in Falcons’ knockout stage prospects

By Monsurah Olatunji

Former Nigeria international, Desire Oparanozie, remains optimistic about Nigeria’s chances of progressing from a challenging Group C at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Despite the Super Falcons’ narrow 1-0 defeat in their opening match against Brazil, the Super Falcons will next face the World Champions, Spain, who secured a victory in their first match.

Notably, this is Spain’s first appearance at the Summer Olympics, but they are the reigning World Champions, UEFA Nations League winners, and ranked world number one by FIFA.

Although this is the first encounter between both sides, Spain boasts 26 wins in their last 29 matches and is a favorite to win the gold medal.

However, the former Nigeria captain turned pundit believes the Super Falcons can navigate the challenging group C that includes reigning world champions Spain, Copa America champions Brazil, and Asia Cup champions Japan.

“Yes, we will come out,” Oparanozie said on 54footballX.

“It’s between Spain and Japan for the top spots, and Nigeria will pick the third place. Brazil is going home. We will lose one, draw one, and win one.”

Oparanozie’s faith in the Super Falcons highlights her belief in the team’s resilience and potential to overcome the tough competition in Group C.
