Paris 2024 Olympic: Kanu Nwankwo reminisces on Olympic Torch Bearer moment

By Monsurah Olatunji

Following the grand opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Nigerian football legend Kanu Nwankwo took to social media to reflect on his own memorable experience as an Olympic torch bearer.

Back in 2012, Kanu had the honor of carrying the Olympic torch during the London Games. This moment was a significant highlight in his illustrious career, which includes leading Nigeria to gold in men’s football at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

In a nostalgic post on X, Kanu, affectionately known as Papilo, shared his excitement about the ongoing Olympics and reminded fans of his past achievement.

“KAN U BELIEVE IT? The 2024 Olympics have kicked off in #paris ✅ Did you watch the opening ceremonies? What was your favorite moment? #olympics2024 #olympictorch #legendary,” he wrote, accompanying the post with a throwback picture of himself with the Olympic torch.

His wife, Amara, joined in the celebration, commenting, “I watched it last night King K. Snoop Dogg and the torch was a vibe 😀🙌🏾.”
