Brazil goalkeeper, Lorena da Silva Leite, has shared her thoughts on Nigeria following Brazil’s 1-0 victory against the West Africans in their opening match of the Paris Olympic Women’s Football event.
The Samba Queens, one of the powerhouses in women’s football, secured a hard-fought win against the nine-time African champions.
Lorena was instrumental in Brazil’s victory, making several crucial saves to deny Nigeria.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper made a brilliant save at point-blank range from Chinwendu Ihezuo and stopped a vicious drive from Christy Ucheibe.
Gabi Nunes scored the decisive goal in the 37th minute, giving Brazil their third win in as many games against the Super Falcons.
Lorena acknowledged the tough challenge posed by the Nigerian team despite Brazil’s victory.
“Brazil are well-prepared. Arthur is doing an excellent job, and we saw today how strong our group is,” she said, according to Football Sierra Leone.
“Nigeria is a tough team, but we deserved to win. Our team is united and always ready to compete for the first place.”
The Super Falcons, showing flashes of promise throughout the game, will now aim to bounce back in their next match against reigning World Champions, Spain.
