Captain of Ethiopia women’s national team, Loza Abera has expressed confidence of her country’s chances of causing major upset against Nigeria in the second leg, second round of 2024 Olympics qualifiers.
Uchenna Kanu’s own goal gave the Lucy an early lead at the Abebe Bilika Stadium last Wednesday before Rasheedat Ajibade’s 54th minute stunning long range effort ensure both sides shared the spoils.
And Abera admits disappointment in the first leg result, having failed to gain the maximum points on home soil.
“I am disappointed with the first leg result. The first game was not bad,” Abera told NigeriaFootball.ng.
“After the match, we discussed our mistakes, our team played well, but we did not play what we needed, so we need to improve.”
The East Africans will be up against the Super Falcons in the return fixture of the qualifying series after both sides settled for 1-1 draw in the first leg in Addis Ababa.
The eventual winner will make it to the final round of the qualifiers and the CBE striker insists they are in good spirit for the return duel to get a qualification result in Nigeria.
“Now we are focusing on the second game because we are in good spirit for this match in Abuja,” she continued.
“Ethiopians always with us in terms of support and they expect a win from us.”
