Paul Onuachu fires seventh goal for Trabzonspor, tops Turkish Super Lig scorers’ chart

By Dayo Awoniyi

Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu continued his impressive goal-scoring form in the Turkish Super Lig, netting his seventh goal of the season on Saturday to help Trabzonspor edge past Caykur Rizespor 2–1.

The 29-year-old’s latest strike cements his position at the top of the league’s scoring chart, further boosting his reputation as one of the most in-form forwards in Turkish football this season.

Onuachu’s clinical displays have earned him widespread acclaim from fans and pundits alike, with his aerial prowess, physicality, and sharp finishing proving decisive for Trabzonspor since his arrival.

His return to form follows a difficult spell in the English Premier League with Southampton, where he struggled to make an impact. However, the switch to Turkey has reignited his career, with the former Genk forward now emerging as a key figure in Trabzonspor’s attacking line.

While his club performances have been outstanding, Onuachu’s form with the Super Eagles has yet to match the same consistency. Nonetheless, football analysts believe his current momentum could make him a valuable asset for Nigeria as the national team intensifies preparations for the final rounds of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Onuachu’s resurgence adds to the growing list of Nigerian forwards making headlines in Europe this season, including reigning African Footballer of the Year Victor Osimhen, who recently joined Turkish giants Galatasaray.

As World Cup qualifying fixtures loom, national team selectors may have no choice but to take a second look at the in-form striker as Nigeria aims for a return to the global stage in 2026.
