‘Paul Onuachu leaves big shoes to fill’ – Tolu Arokodare excited about Genk’s switch

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria striker Tolu Arokodare has expressed his excitement about the move to the Belgian club Genk on the deadline day, and also could not hide his joy arriving as a replacement for compatriot Paul Onuachu at the club.
On the January transfer deadline day, the Belgium Pro League side snapped up Arokodare for a four-and-a-half-year deal, from Amiens to replace the departing compatriot Onuachu to Southampton.
While sharing same physical attributes with his countryman Onuachu, standing at just one inch behind the 6ft7in new Southampton front man, the 22-year-old striker admitted that it will be difficult to fill the void left by Onuachu.
“I am very happy to be in Genk. At this point in my career, I can’t imagine a better club. Together with the team, I hope to continue the good results of the first half of the season and win trophies,” Arokodare told the club website.
“Paul leaves big shoes to fill. But I am determined to give 100% for this great club.”
Before his move to the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, Arokodare launched his youth career in Lagos before joining Latvian club Valmiera in June 2019.
The following season, he was loaned to German Bundesliga club FC Köln for the 2020/21 term before joining Ligue 2 club Amiens on a two-year loan deal with an option to buy on June 28, 2021.
He scored eight goals in 23 appearances for Amiens in the first round of the season to earn his dream move to Genk.
