By Wale Mustapha
The duo of Nigerian descents, Gabriel Osho and Elijah Adebayo were on score sheets for Luton on Tuesday night when they suffered a 4-3 comeback Premier League defeat to leaders Arsenal.
It was a 90 minutes of interesting soccer game at Kenilworth Road where the Hatters were able to matched their top class visitors for most parts of the game but would later succumb to a Declan Rice’s stoppage time header that have the Gunners title boosting victory.
It was a cagey opening 20 minutes as Luton held their guest to the jugular with perfect defending.
They would soon opened up for the Gunners to score in the 22nd minutes as Gabriel Martinelli shoot past Thomas Kaminski.
The Hatters responded with a quick equalizer as Nigerian born English defender, Osho rose higher than David Raya to head home from corner.
Gabriel Jesus handed Arsenal an half time lead as he reached to the end of Ben White’s cross for a simple header.
Luton grew better in the second half and looked more potent with pressings. That paid off before the hour mark as they were back on level terms again, thanks another Raya’s misjudgment of a Doughty’s corner to allow another Nigerian born player, Elijah to head in.
Ross Barkley turned the game on its head with Luton’s third goal as Raya failed to keep out his low drive.
Arsenal restored parity through Kai Havertz’s deft touch following Jesus’ through ball.
Arsenal left it late before showing why they should be taking serious as title contenders with Martin Ødegaard’s first-time cross glanced off the head of Rice and past Kaminski, sending Arsenal fans into raptures as their Luton counterparts sunk into despair.
The victory stretched Arsenal’s hold to top of the log with five points while Luton remain in the drop zone.
