President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has bestowed national honours and major rewards on the victorious Nigeria’s senior women’s national team following their record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON2024) triumph in Morocco.
In a grand reception held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday evening, President Tinubu conferred the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON)* national honour on every member of the squad, in recognition of their exceptional performance and commitment to national pride.
Each player was decorated with one of Nigeria’s highest civilian honours (OON)
Every player received a 3-bedroom apartment and monetary gifts of $100,000 for each player, $50,000 for each member of the technical crew, and an additional ₦10 million from the Nigerian Governors’ Forum.
President Tinubu hailed the Super Falcons as “a symbol of resilience, unity, and Nigerian excellence,” and emphasized that their 3-2 comeback win over hosts Morocco in the WAFCON 2024 final showcased the fighting spirit of the nation.
The team was later treated to a celebratory concert at Eagle Square, featuring performances by top Nigerian artistes in honour of their accomplishment.
The Super Falcons’ dominant display in Morocco — which included victories over Zambia, South Africa, and Morocco — not only reclaimed continental glory but also ignited national and continental celebration.
