President Federation Cup: Whyte Ogbonda hails Rivers Angels’ resilience in semis win

By Wale Mustapha

Technical Adviser Whyte Ogbonda of Rivers Angels has praised his team for their resilience in securing a 2-1 victory over Delta Queens in the semifinals of the President Federation Cup.

The match, held early on Sunday in Awka, saw Blessing Okpe and Peace Effiong scoring early goals for the Jewel of Rivers, while Maureen Okpala’s penalty for Delta Queens was a mere consolation.

Reflecting on the tough encounter, Ogbonda acknowledged the quality of both teams, highlighting their status as champions in women’s football.

He emphasized his team’s determination to win the final and make up for narrowly missing out on the league title, while expressing gratitude to the supporters and people of Rivers State for their unwavering support.

“It was a challenging match, but we managed to come out victorious against a strong opponent,” Ogbonda stated in a statement to the club media.

“After narrowly losing the league title, our focus is now on winning the trophy for the State government and the people of Rivers State.”

Rivers Angels will face Naija Ratels in the final, following Ratels’ victory over Remo Stars Ladies in the other semifinal. The final is scheduled to take place on Saturday in Lagos.
