Randy Waldrum has hailed “absolutely brilliant” Jennifer Echegini following Nigeria’s 3-0 win against New Zealand on Tuesday.
The Florida State University midfielder made her international debut for Nigeria against Canada on April 9, 2022 and provided the assist for Esther Okoronkwo’s winner in a 1-0 win over Costa Rica at the Revelation Cup in Mexico.
The youngster finally got her first goal in the Super Falcons colour on her seventh appearance against New Zealand on Tuesday and the American tactician lauded the 22-year-old’s increasing impact since joining the team.
“The most exciting thing about that is anytime a player is to play for the country and they get their first goal is the one they always remember and the good thing about that is the buildup to that goal was absolutely brilliant,” Waldrum continued.
“The interplay, the cross and the finish is world class. So she will remember that goal for a long time but she’s really come up in the last year since we first brought her to Canada and she just continues to get better and better, I was really happy for her because she finally found the back of the net.”
Echegini will be aiming to maintain her superb form when the camp reopen in July in her quest to make the Nigeria squad for the first time for the Women’s World Cup this summer.
