Randy Waldrum pleased with Super Falcons’ winning display against Haiti
By Wale Mustapha
Head Coach of Nigeria’s women’s national football team, Randy Waldrum has expressed delight with how players fared in their 2-1 pre World Cup friendly win over Haiti on Friday.
The Super Falcons scored in both halves thanks to a spectacular free kick scored by Esther Okoronkwo and cool finish by Asisat Oshoala to nick the triumph despite Melchie Dumonay late effort for the Caribbean’s.
A delighted Waldrum who talked up how the players pulled through the closing stages told nigeriafootball.ng that the overall performances of individual players were gave hope of more positives to come from the team.
“I’m really proud of the way we played, from the first minute to 75 minutes we played really well we controlled the game, but once we conceded that goal we got a little bit chaotic in the last 10 minutes, but I’m proud of the way we finished it,” Waldrum told the NFF TV.
“I’m quite impressed with the performance and also individual performance was good as well.
Asked about the unfortunate Haiti’s goal conceded, the American football tactician expressed worry over it but gave assurance to work on it ahead of subsequent games.
“I think the mistake (for Haiti’s goal) was the turn overs we make, that have them the ability to counter us on the fast break, I think we had much control of the game but we were too causal with it and catch us on the break,” he continued.
“We’ve able to show that to the players in the video and hoping it won’t continue because we made couple of that in the game, their (Haiti) best chances of the game came from the mistakes we made and its important we work on it as quickly as possible.”
The Super Falcons will continue their preparation for the FIFA Women’s World Cup proper with another Friendly against the co-host New Zealand on Tuesday by 2pm.
