The future of Randy Waldrum with Nigeria remain uncertain despite leading the West African nation to a knockout stage of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
According to an NFF official, irespective of what happens against England, Waldrum will leave his role as Super Falcons head coach after the World Cup.
The American had few days to the kick-off of the competition, thrown Nigerian football camp in complete disarray following open media attack against his employers, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Amidst this, Nigeria progressed to the last 16 of the Women’s World Cup after a goalless draw against the Republic of Ireland as a point was enough for Waldrum’s side to finish second in Group B.
The nine-time African champions will battle England for a place in the quarter-finals at Lang Park, Brisbane on Monday.
However, according to an NFF official who pleaded anonymity, revealed that Waldrum would still be let go after the World Cup, as the Federation is now open to letting him run down his contract and resign, so he can go in dignity.
“Nobody expects him to remain after the World Cup, even if he is not sacked, he will go on his own. But after what he has done, I think we will just let him resign by himself, so he can go with dignity,” the source disclosed.
