Nigeria international Rasheedat Ajibade has vowed to make the country proud at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
It’s the second World Cup outing for the Atletico Madrid star, having made her senior international debut in 2018, representing Nigeria at U17, U20, and senior national team levels.
She captained the Super Falcons for the first time in a 1-0 friendly victory over Slovenian club, Olimpija Ljubljana in Vienna, Austria, and was part of the Women’s Afcon winning squad in 2018.
Ajibade’s experience with Atletico will undoubtedly contribute to her best on the international stage, as she brings the spirit and prowess of one of Europe’s top clubs to the global arena.
The 23-year-old who is a member of FIFPRO’s Global Player Council has revealed that she will make the country proud at the upcoming global showpiece in Down Under.
“I’m preparing for my second senior World Cup and I’m so excited to be part of this Super Falcons team at Australia/New Zealand 2023,” Ajibade told FIFA.com.
“The rapid growth in women’s football right now is incredible and this World Cup will be a huge step in the right direction of the sport. With four African teams competing now, this is a big opportunity for our continent on the global stage.
“It will be tough, but it will be business as usual. My teammates and I will be doing everything we can to make Nigeria and Africa proud.”
The Super Falcons find themselves in Group B alongside co-host Australia, Canada, and the Republic of Ireland.
