Rasheedat Ajibade faces extended absence after PSG confirm fibula fracture
Paris Saint-Germain forward and Nigeria captain Rasheedat Ajibade will undergo surgery after suffering a fractured fibula during international duty.
PSG confirmed the diagnosis in a medical update, saying the operation would be carried out by one of the club’s specialist surgeons. Ajibade will then begin rehabilitation under the supervision of the club’s medical team.
Nigerian newspaper PUNCH reported that the 26-year-old had surgery in France on Friday, 16 October. PSG have not yet provided a timescale for her return to competitive football.
Ajibade sustained the injury during Nigeria’s second-leg meeting with Comoros at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, on Tuesday, 13 October 2026.
The Super Falcons captain was involved in a first-half collision with a Comoros player and received treatment on the pitch before being taken off on a stretcher. Forward Folashade Ijamilusi came on in the 23rd minute.
Nigeria responded strongly despite losing their captain, securing a 5-0 victory to complete a 7-0 aggregate success. The result sent them into the third round of the African qualifying series for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
PSG said Ajibade would continue her treatment at the club’s medical centre and offered their support during what they described as a difficult period, wishing her courage and a speedy recovery.
The injury is a significant setback for both PSG and Nigeria because of Ajibade’s importance in attack and her leadership role with the Super Falcons. Her eventual return will depend on the outcome of her treatment and rehabilitation, with no official recovery period yet announced.
Before joining up with Nigeria, Ajibade had been in good scoring form for PSG. She found the net in a 3-1 win against Fleury in the Arkema Premiere Ligue, taking her total to four goals in all competitions.
That was her second successive appearance on the scoresheet, and her absence will be a concern for PSG as they continue their domestic and European commitments.
Nigeria’s victory over Comoros also secured a place in the third qualifying round, where they are scheduled to meet Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses. That tie is expected to provide a tougher test, making Ajibade’s availability an important consideration for the Super Falcons.
For now, the focus is on her recovery following surgery. Nigerian supporters and the wider football community will be hoping she makes a full recovery and returns to action once medically cleared.
Nigfooty Sports also wished Ajibade a successful recovery and a strong return to the pitch.
