Remo Stars extend NPFL lead with narrow win over Plateau United

By Dayo Awoniyi

Remo Stars extended their lead at the top of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Plateau United at home on Sunday, further cementing their dominance in the competition.

The match was decided by debutant Samson Olasupo’s 74th-minute strike, which proved to be the only goal of the game.

Despite a missed penalty by captain Junior Nduka in the 38th minute and his subsequent red card in stoppage time, Remo Stars held firm to secure the three points.

With this result, Remo Stars have now opened up a commanding 12-point gap over their nearest rivals, Rivers United and Shooting Stars, who will face off today.

The win further strengthens their position as title favorites in the NPFL.

In other matches across the league, Kano Pillars moved up to fourth place with a victory over defending champions Enugu Rangers, while Abia Warriors dropped to seventh after a draw with Nasarawa United.

Meanwhile, the league’s youngest team, Ikorodu City, continued to impress with a 2-0 win over Heartland, and Enyimba climbed to ninth with a 1-0 win against Niger Tornadoes.
