Rivers Angels edge Delta Queens to set up President Federation Cup final clash with Naija Ratels

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Rivers Angels will be making back-to-back appearances in the final of the President Federation Cup after a 2-1 win over Delta Queens in the semi-final match on Sunday.

Blessing Okpe opened the scoring for the Jewels of Rivers in the fourth minute from a cross by Aminat Folorunsho.

Two minutes later, Peace Effiong doubled the lead for Ogbonda Whyte’s side from a goal-mouth scramble.

With halftime approaching, a foul inside the box by Florence Alexander resulted in a penalty for The Pearls.

Maureen Okpala converted the resulting spot kick in the 45th minute to reduce the deficit.

Chances from both sides in the second half didn’t result in any goals as Rivers Angels sealed a place in the final after reaching the same stage last year where Bayelsa Queens emerged victorious on penalties.

They will face Naija Ratels FC which is making their first-ever appearance in the final.

Naija Ratels FC defeated Remo Stars Ladies 7-6 on penalties in the second semi-final match to make it to next weekend’s final at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The Abuja-based side had to score a late goal to take the match into penalties with regulation time ending in a 2-2 draw.

The men’s and women’s final of the 2024 President Federation Cup will take place next weekend in Lagos.
