Rivers United qualify for Caf Confederation Cup group stage after draw in Libya

2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Rivers United are through to the group stage of the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup after securing 1-1 draw with Al Nasr of Libya.
Rivers United had won the first leg convincingly 5-0 at the Adokiye Amasiemaka stadium in Port-Harcourt, Nigeria.
Arriving in Libya for the second leg on Monday, the Nigeria side were subjected to various threats and mind games.
The match started with Al Nasr dominating the encounter and Rivers United were forced to defend in the early part of the game.
However, the hosts were able to make a breakthrough towards the end of the half and made 1-0 going into the half time.
The Nigeria champions improved their performance in the second half and were able to silence the home crowd with an equalizer from Nyima Nwagua.
Al Nasr’s attackers tried their best to score another goal but all their efforts proved abortive as Rivers United’s defenders nullified all their attempts to secure a well-deserved draw.
With the 6-1 aggregate win, Rivers United will join other qualified African teams in the group stage of the competition
