Rivers United to face Lobito in Uyo as Amiesimaka Stadium fail CAF test again
By Wale Mustapha
Nigeria’s last representative in the 2023/2024 CAF club competition, Rivers United begin their Confederation Cup group stage campaign against Academica do Lobito at the Godswil Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Sunday.
The development on the venue is coming after CAF could not grant the club’s approval to use Adokie Amiesimeka Stadium in Portharcourt for the group stage games.
The Pride of Rivers will now be returning to the same ground that hosted their group stage games last season and hope it favor them more this time.
That match has also been confirmed to kickoff at 5pm on Sunday 26th of November in Uyo.
The 2021/2022 Nigerian champions must get off to a winning start and make sure they finish among the top two in the group to preserve Nigeria’s four spots for CAF Club competitions next season.
Rivers United FC will also face Tunisia’s Club Africain and Ghana’s Dreams FC in group C of the competition.
Their Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL Matchday 10 clash against Plateau United already scheduled for the weekend will now be played at a later date.
