Rumour Mill: Paul Onuachu sets for Belgium return after failed Premier League move

By Wale Mustapha

Nigerian striker, Paul Onuachu could make a swift return to Belgian Jupiler League after the forward find it difficult to settle quickly in the Premier League.

Onuachu joined the Saints in the winter transfer window from Genk in a deal worth £18m but struggled to hold a starting place in the team till they find themselves relegated to the lower division.

The Super Eagles forward was able to start four games without finding back of the net.

Latest reports coming from St Mary’s Stadium have it that the club is already considering sending the FC Ebedei product back to Belgium on loan with his former club, Genk and Anderlecht penciled as possible destination.

Onuachu’s manager at Southampton, Ruben Selles threw to the defense of his striker adding that it can be difficult for some players to settle quickly in the Premier League.

“I think sometimes it’s difficult to come straight to the Premier League and it’s hard to score goals, especially in that position,”

“There are some key positions where you need to be more exposed than the others and that’s the number nine position.

“Probably the change in manager didn’t benefit him, we went some places that we didn’t go before.”

Southampton will be hoping to listen to offers from any of the interested clubs from Belgium but will also have to convince the striker on move as they will need to balance their book ahead of life at the EFL championship.
