Rumour Mill: WSL heavyweights chase Joy Omewa amid intense transfer interest

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

Nigeria international Joy Omewa is emerging as one of the most sought-after forwards ahead of the winter transfer window, with multiple reports linking the prolific Nigerian striker to a potential move to the Women’s Super League.

West Ham United, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Aston Villa are all understood to be monitoring her situation closely, according to Soccerdonna.

Omewa’s rapid ascent has placed her firmly on the radar of top English clubs eager to bolster their attacking lines. Her explosive form over the past year has transformed her into one of Europe’s most exciting young finishers.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a standout spell at Fortuna Hjørring, where her contributions have been instrumental to the club’s success. She was named Danish Women’s League Player of the Season and secured the Golden Boot, accolades that elevated her profile across the continent.

She carried that momentum into the 2024–25 campaign, recording 14 goals and four assists in 17 league appearances by mid-April, a blistering run that helped Fortuna secure a dominant domestic double. Her consistency and clinical edge have made her one of the league’s defining players this season.

Omewa’s performances did not go unnoticed at the international level either. She earned her first call-up to the Super Falcons, making her debut late in Nigeria’s WAFCON qualifying win over Benin Republic.

With the winter window approaching, interest in Omewa is expected to intensify, and a move to England could mark the next major step in her rapidly rising career.
