Rumour Mills: Cyriel Dessers rejects 10 offers to stay at Rangers, Agent explains

By Wale Mustapha

Cyriel Dessers’ agent, Stijn Francis, has explained why the Nigerian striker decided to remain at Scottish Premier League (SPL) side Glasgow Rangers beyond the January transfer window, despite receiving numerous offers for his client.

Dessers, who had struggled for form earlier in the season, appeared set to leave the Blue Army after dropping in the pecking order behind Moroccan forward Hamza Igamane.

However, a remarkable turn of events saw the Super Eagles striker rediscover his form, scoring a hat-trick in the Scottish Cup followed by a goal in the UEFA Europa League against Manchester United, highlighting his potential and determination to reclaim a starting spot.

Despite his revival, Dessers received interest from several clubs, including Cagliari, Empoli, and Leganes, but none made permanent offers for the forward.

According to Francis, loan offers were not considered, as they did not align with the player’s focus and future ambitions.

“There is still a lot of probing, but clubs are pushing much less. Look at Cyriel Dessers: he had ten offers, but the market was much more difficult at that time. Many wanted to loan him, but Rangers only wanted to sell. And that is not ideal for the player’s focus,” Francis told Voetbalnieuws.

Dessers, who has scored eight goals and provided two assists in 22 appearances for Rangers this season, will be keen to maintain his strong form as the club pushes for the league title and continues its European campaign.
