Samuel Kalu Aims to Soar with Super Eagles After Stellar Performance
In a compelling turn of events, KAA Gent’s dynamic Nigerian forward, Samuel Kalu, has expressed his fervent desire to don the national colors and play for the Super Eagles. The revelation comes on the heels of Gent’s triumphant 3-0 victory against Eupen in a recent Belgian top-flight clash, where Moses Simon, a prominent Super Eagles forward, showcased his prowess with two penalty goals. Notably, Nigerian midfielder Anderson Esiti also featured prominently for Gent during the spirited encounter.
At the age of 20, Kalu, who has never represented Nigeria at any level, revealed his eagerness to seize the opportunity to contribute to the Super Eagles’ success. Speaking with enthusiasm, he conveyed his aspirations in an interview with Gent’s official website following the victory over Eupen.
“The national team? That would be nice,” Kalu affirmed. “I already heard from some players how the atmosphere is there. So if I get that chance, then I would catch it with both hands.”
Kalu, who made a significant move to Gent from Slovakian side AS Trencin, took a moment to reflect on his past challenges, particularly a hamstring injury that temporarily sidelined him. Undeterred, he expressed gratitude for the chance to showcase his skills and dedication to the team.
“It was not an easy period during my hamstring injury. So it was good to play and be in the team,” Kalu reflected. “I’m glad to show the fans what I can do. The trust is back in the team. You also see that we continue to work very hard to bring good results. We can only give them 100%.”
As the Super Eagles gear up for their final African qualifying Group B match against Algeria in November, Kalu’s determination and commitment hint at a promising addition to the squad, adding to the anticipation surrounding Nigeria’s journey to the Russia 2018 World Cup.
