Super Eagles defender Shehu Abdullahi expressed his joy at making a triumphant return for Anorthosis after serving a suspension, contributing to their hard-fought 1-1 draw against Omonia Nicosia in the Cyprus top flight on Saturday. Abdullahi had faced suspension following a straight red card in Anorthosis’ previous fixture against Apollon on October 14, causing him to miss two games.
In the clash against Omonia Nicosia, Abdullahi showcased his resilience, featuring for the entire 90 minutes. Anorthosis secured a crucial away point with Ferreira Douglao netting a dramatic 90th-minute equalizer, canceling out Rafael Lopes’ 56th-minute opener.
Expressing his enthusiasm on Twitter, Abdullahi wrote, “Nicosia 1-1 Anorthosisfc. Crucial away point, I’m excited to return to action. Unbeaten run still intact. Thanks traveling @anorthosisfc fans. Amazing support we got!!! #WeAreAnorthosis. #NeverGiveUp. #UntilTheEnd.”
The draw maintains Anorthosis’ solid position in the 14-team league table, securing the second spot with 20 points. AEK Larnaca currently leads the pack with 22 points, making the competition at the top of the Cyprus top-flight league intriguing.
As Abdullahi rejoins the defensive lineup, Anorthosis looks poised to continue their impressive form in the league, with the defender’s return adding strength to their pursuit of the top spot. The Cypriot football scene promises more exciting clashes as the season unfolds.
