Silas Nwankwo shines as Mjallby snatch valuable points at Kalmar

Former top scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, Silas Nwankwo had a decent performance on Thursday as he helped Mjallby secured an important 2-1 away win at Kalmar.

The Swedish top flight encounter saw a cagey game, with both teams playing their hearts out but it was the visitors  who gained the lead in the first half from of a fine finish by Jacob Bergstrom.

Nwankwo and Bergstrom combined well with another attack but failed to score from a decent run off a counter attack.

The Nigerian forward would then be swapped for Mamudo Moro in the second half before Mjallby doubled their lead midway through the second half through Viktor Gustafson who tucked in a cross from Otto Rosengre.

Senegalese’s Papa Alioune Diouf scored a late goal for Kalmar but would only be counted as consolation.

Nwankwo’s compatriot at Mjallby, Yusuf Abdulazeez was an unused substitute in the hard fought win.

 

The former Gombe United winger is yet to find the place in the team as he was able to single appearance since his move three months ago from NPFL side.

Nwankwo has scored eight goals in 25 league appearances for Mjallby since hr joined the Swedish club from Nasarawa United early this year.

Mjallby are currently ninth on the Allsveskan league log with 37 points from 27 matches.

 

They will hope to consolidate on the away win in their next game against Varberg at home on Monday
