Sone Aluko’s £7.5 Million Reading Switch Nears Completion, Medical Set for Today
English Championship club Reading FC is on the brink of securing the services of Nigerian forward Sone Aluko, with the player scheduled to undergo a medical examination today. The £7.5 million deal, long in the making, is set to bring the 28-year-old star from Fulham to the Royals.
Aluko, who arrived at Fulham as a free transfer from Hull City in 2016, has been on Reading’s radar since the onset of the current transfer window. The agreement to bring the versatile forward to the Madejski Stadium has already been struck, as confirmed by Sky Sports.
The potential move sparked significant interest during the pre-season, with Fulham’s manager, Slavisa Jokanovic, advocating for Aluko’s retention amidst rumors of Reading’s intent to secure his services. Following a pre-season loss to Wolfsburg, Jokanovic emphasized the importance of keeping Aluko in the squad, saying, “I have to fight for Sone Aluko because there are reports that we are considering selling him. If we do this, it would be a significant mistake for my team. To improve, we must bring in quality individuals.”
Aluko, a former Flying Eagles standout, missed Fulham’s 2-0 away victory against Ipswich due to a hip injury. Despite the setback, he has featured in four out of Fulham’s five league games this season.
The impending transfer of Sone Aluko to Reading represents a pivotal moment in the ongoing English Championship transfer window, signaling a new chapter in the talented forward’s career as he seeks to contribute to his new team’s quest for success.
