Stanley Eguma, technical Adviser of Rivers United has expressed disappointment in his side’s late slip in a 2-2 draw against Bayelsa United in Wednesday’s Nigeria Premier Football League encounter.
Rivers United jumped to a two-goal lead and went close to sealing the victory but capitulated to late pressure for Bayelsa’s added time equalizer at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
Chiamaka Madu gave Rivers a first half lead when he turned a brilliant pass from Joseph Onoja before Daniel Ekpo brought Bayelsa back on level terms with six minutes into restart.
Malachi Ohawume restored the champions’ lead in the 67th minute when he stabbed home a low delivery from Mark Gibson but Bayelsa’s top scorer Mizo Robert scored at the death to ensure both sides share the spoils.
“We actually came here to get the three points and we did our best to almost achieving that, we led till added time but due careless and tactical mistakes cost us the victory,” Eguma told Nigeriafootball.ng.
“All the same, I thank them for their efforts and we hope for better days, we will work harder in subsequent matches to ensure that we get more wins and avoid defeat.
“It’s very tedious playing every 48 hours and also playing in the continents, its very demanding. These players need some rest but the fixtures arrangements have not able to allow them, but we don’t have a choice we will only need to manage the them with the fixtures,” he said.
The Nigerian champions are expected to jet out of the country on Friday to Congo for their third CAF Confederation Cup clash with Motema Pembe.
