Stanley Eguma reveals Confederation Cup, NPFL title targets with Rivers United

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Ahead of Wednesday’s CAF Confederation Cup draw, Rivers United Technical Adviser, Stanley Eguma says his side have perfected strategies to win the Interclub competition and also retain the Nigeria Premier Football League title.
The Pride of Rivers suffered their second defeat of the group stages in Abidjan where they lost their last group match 1-0 to ASEC Mimosa, with the result sealing a second-place finish for the Nigerian champions.
Despite the setback, the former Dolphins manager insists his side are fully aware that Nigerians wish to see an NPFL club win the elusive CAF tournament for the first time in the history of the country.
“All the competitions we entered have their categories and I think CAF Confederation Cup is higher than any of them but we are not losing focus because it was through the league we got this ticket to go to the continent,” Eguma told media.
“We knew Nigerians have an interest in CAF competitions and we don’t have to let them down that is why we have given the utmost attention to make sure we perform well.”
Rivers United is the only Nigerian club in the draw for the CAF Confederation Cup, following the early crashes of local rivals Plateau United, Remo Stars, and Kwara United.
Stanley Eguma’s side are joined by Marumo Gallants (South Africa), USM Alger (Algeria), ASFAR FC (Egypt), Pyramids, Young African (Tanzania), and Asec Mimosa for Wednesday’s quarter-final draw.
The team top Group B of the 2022/2023 abridged league of the NPFL with 19 points as Lobi Stars with an outstanding match.
