Stanley Nwabali’s heroics inspire Chippa United to Cape Town derby win

By Dayo Awoniyi

Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali delivered a heroic performance to help Chippa United secure a 2-0 victory over Cape Town City in the Betway Premiership.

Nwabali was in superb form, making six crucial saves, including an outstanding one-handed stop, to deny Cape Town City and secure his fourth clean sheet of the season.

Cape Town City came close early on, with Prins Tjiueza’s audacious lob grazing the crossbar and Tshegofatso Nyama’s powerful long-range shot forcing a brilliant save from Nwabali.

Despite the hosts’ early pressure, Chippa United broke the deadlock in the 61st minute through Sinoxolo Kwayiba, who went on to complete a brace just nine minutes later, sealing the win for his side in the intense Cape Town derby.

Nwabali’s commanding performance between the sticks was key to Chippa United’s well-earned victory.
