Champions League: Ademola Lookman scores, misses penalty as Club Brugge knock Atalanta out

By Dayo Awoniyi

Club Brugge pulled off an impressive 3-1 victory over Atalanta in Italy, securing a 5-2 aggregate win to knock the Italian side out of the UEFA Champions League.

The Belgian team were dominant in the first half, with Chadi Riad Talbi scoring a brace and Ferran Jutglà adding a third just before halftime.

Atalanta fought back after the break, and Ademola Lookman brought them a glimmer of hope, scoring in the 46th minute.

However, Lookman’s missed penalty in the 61st minute proved to be a turning point in the match, as the Nigerian forward failed to capitalize on a key opportunity to pull Atalanta closer.

Despite a late push from Atalanta, Club Brugge stood firm, and in the final minutes, Atalanta’s frustration boiled over when captain Rafael Tolói was shown a red card in the 87th minute.

Club Brugge held on to secure a historic win, progressing to the next round of the competition while Atalanta’s European campaign came to a frustrating end.
